The pain attack might be triggered by any of enlisted factors + eating some specific foods (chocolate, avocado) + alcohol (I mean even sip of wine might be a trigger) + light flashes, intense smells etc. The pain of full blown attack is amazing, some sufferes even claims it's worse than childbirth (depending on how painful was childbirth was, I guess), it can last up to several days. Personally, when I'm having attack I dream of stabbing my head with screwdriver, but I can't move from my bed, I have to blabber to someone to bring me meds etc. Heard of Harry Potter scar pains in the night, head-cracking pain?
